Formed in Oklahoma City in 2009, Skating Polly is an American rock band founded by step-siblings Kelli Drew Mayo and Peyton Mckenna Bighorse. Mayo, born March 29, 2000, and Bighorse, born July 11, 1995, started the band when they were 9 and 14 years old respectively. The duo is known as multi-instrumentalists who alternate instruments throughout their work. In 2017, Kelli's brother Kurtis Lee Mayo joined the band as drummer, allowing Peyton and Kelli to focus on guitar and bass respectively. The band is noted for their poetic lyrics, intense live shows, and melodic arrangements. Their music spans an eclectic array of styles, ranging from riot grrrl and grunge to piano-based indie pop, demonstrating their versatility as musicians and songwriters.
