Formed in 1994 by Jay Farrar following the breakup of Uncle Tupelo, Son Volt is an American rock band that became a staple of the alternative country rock movement during the 1990s. The band's musical style blends alternative rock with folk rock and Americana influences. The current line-up includes Farrar on vocals and guitar, Andrew DuPlantis on bass guitar, John Horton on guitar, Mark Patterson on drums, and Mark Spencer on keyboard and steel guitar. After going on an indefinite hiatus in 2001, the band reformed in 2004 and has continued performing since then.
