Formed in late 1999 by guitarist Eddie Reyes and bassist Jesse Lacey in Amityville, New York, Taking Back Sunday is an American rock band that became one of the more visible groups of the early-2000s emo boom. Lead vocalist Adam Lazzara joined prior to the release of the band's 2002 debut album Tell All Your Friends. The band achieved major success with their 2006 album Louder Now, which featured the popular single "MakeDamnSure" and peaked at No. 2 on the United States Billboard 200, selling over 900,000 copies. This surpassed their previous Billboard 200 peak of No. 3 in 2004 with Where You Want to Be. The current lineup features Lazzara on lead vocals, John Nolan on lead guitar and keyboards, and Shaun Cooper on bass guitar. Nolan and Cooper temporarily left the band in 2003 to form Straylight Run before returning in 2010. Taking Back Sunday released their eighth studio album, 152, in 2023, and have been ranked among the best pop punk bands by music critics.
