The Academic is an Irish indie rock band from Killucan, County Westmeath, consisting of Craig Fitzgerald, Dean Gavin, and brothers Matthew and Stephen Murtagh. The band released their debut studio album, Tales from the Backseat, in January 2018, which debuted at number one on the Irish Albums Chart. The album earned a nomination for Album of the Year at the Choice Music Prize in January 2019. Their second studio album, Sitting Pretty, came out on 10 February 2023 and also entered the official Irish Albums Chart at number one.
