Established in 1977 by Benny Jones and members of the Tornado Brass Band, the Dirty Dozen Brass Band is an American brass ensemble based in New Orleans, Louisiana. The group is known for incorporating funk and bebop elements into the traditional New Orleans jazz style, creating a distinctive sound that blended contemporary influences with classic jazz traditions. As innovators in their field, they have become a major influence on local music throughout their decades of activity. Their contributions to music were recognized in 2023 when they won the Grammy Award for Best American Roots Performance.
