Formed in the summer of 2009, The Head and the Heart is an American indie folk band that began as a collaboration between Josiah Johnson and Jonathan Russell, both contributing vocals, guitar, and percussion. The band has evolved into a larger ensemble that currently features Russell alongside Charity Rose Thielen on violin, guitar, and vocals, Chris Zasche on bass, Kenny Hensley on piano, Tyler Williams on drums, and Matt Gervais on guitar and vocals. Signed to Verve Records, the group has established themselves as a notable force in indie folk music through the release of six studio albums. Their most recent work, Aperture, was released on May 9, 2025, marking the continuation of their musical journey and creative output.
