The full title of the track is "Hot Rails to Hell," which was the only single released from the album. Despite its release, the single did not chart on the Billboard 200. The album itself peaked at No. 122 on the Billboard 200 chart on May 12, 1973. Notably, Tyranny and Mutation is the only album in Blue Öyster Cult's catalog to include the definite article "The" in the band's name, appearing as THE BLVE ÖYSTER CVLT on the cover with stylized spelling.
