About
From Seattle, Washington, The Postal Service was an American indie pop group featuring singer Ben Gibbard, producer Jimmy Tamborello (known by his stage name Dntel), and Jenny Lewis on background vocals. The group released their sole studio album, Give Up, in 2003 on Sub Pop Records, which received mostly positive reviews. The album reached number 45 on the US Billboard 200 chart and earned platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America. After two years, the band decided to disband, believing that attempts at a follow-up album were unnecessary. The Postal Service reunited twice to celebrate the anniversaries of Give Up, performing in both 2013 and 2023 with rotating support musicians including Laura Burhenn, Jen Wood, Dave Depper, and Jason McGerr. The band announced that their final performance would take place on September 21, 2024 at HFStival in Washington D.C.
