James C. Heath, better known by his stage name The Reverend Horton Heat, is an American musician, singer, songwriter, and guitarist born in 1959. He leads The Reverend Horton Heat, a psychobilly trio from Dallas that formed in 1986. The band played its first gigs in the Deep Ellum neighborhood of Dallas and features core members Jim "Reverend Horton" Heath on guitars and lead vocals and Jimbo Wallace on upright bass. A reviewer for Prick magazine called Heath the "godfather of modern rockabilly and psychobilly." The group's music blends rock and roll with diverse influences including 1950s country music, surf music, punk, big band, swing, and rockabilly standards. The band signed to Victory Records in 2012 and has released numerous studio albums throughout its career, including its 12th studio album, Whole New Life, which came out on November 30, 2018.
