About
Formed in Detroit, Michigan in 1977, The Romantics are an American rock band whose music blends power pop and new wave influences. The group drew inspiration from diverse musical sources including 1950s American rock and roll, Detroit's legendary MC5 and the Stooges, early Bob Seger, Motown R&B, 1960s North American garage rock, and British Invasion rockers. The band achieved substantial popularity across multiple countries including the United States, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Canada, and Australia. Their breakthrough came with two major hits: "What I Like About You," which peaked at number 49 in the US and reached number 2 in Australia, and "Talking in Your Sleep," climbing to number 3 in the US, number 1 in Canada, and number 14 in Australia. Both songs have maintained significant radio presence over the decades, becoming staples on 1980s-focused, classic rock, and active rock radio stations.
