Formed in Phoenix in 2008, The Word Alive is an American metalcore band that has built a notable career in the genre. The group was initially signed to Fearless Records from their formation before transitioning to Thriller Records in 2022. The current lineup features vocalist Tyler Smith, guitarist and keyboardist Jose DelRio, guitarist Logan Abernethy, and drummer Devin Attard. The band gained early attention with their second EP, Empire, which reached No. 15 on the Top Heatseekers chart and received positive acclaim following its 2009 release. They continued their momentum with their debut studio album, Deceiver, recorded in 2010 and released on August 31 of that year. The album achieved chart success, reaching No. 97 on the Billboard 200 and No. 15 on the Independent Albums chart, establishing The Word Alive as a significant presence in the metalcore scene.
