Antonio Griffo Focas Flavio Angelo Ducas Comneno Porfirogenito Gagliardi De Curtis di Bisanzio, known professionally as Totò or Antonio de Curtis, was born on 15 February 1898 and died on 15 April 1967. Nicknamed "il principe della risata," meaning "the prince of laughter," he was an Italian actor, comedian, screenwriter, dramatist, poet, singer, and lyricist. Totò is commonly regarded as one of the most popular Italian performers of all time. He achieved particular fame through his funny and sometimes cynical comic characters in theatre productions and in numerous successful comedy films that spanned from the 1940s to the 1960s. Beyond his comedy work, Totò also collaborated with many iconic Italian film directors in dramatic roles, demonstrating his versatility as a performer.
