Tribulation

Tribulation refers to a period discussed in Christian eschatology, specifically mentioned by Jesus in the Olivet Discourse as a sign of the end times. The term "Great Tribulation" appears in the Book of Revelation at 7:14, where it is used to describe the period Jesus spoke of. In the Gospel of Matthew, at 24:21 and 24:29, the word tribulation is employed in a context referring to the afflictions experienced by those hard-pressed by siege and the calamities of war. The concept originates from Ancient Greek terminology, with the phrase rendered as thlîpsis megálē in romanized form, literally translating to "the great tribulation" in English.
