Black Crown Initiate is an American extreme metal band from Reading, Pennsylvania. Formed in 2012, the band self-released their debut EP Song of the Crippled Bull to positive critical reception. They began touring in early 2014 alongside notable extreme metal acts including Goatwhore, Behemoth, and 1349. This touring activity led to a record deal with eOne Music in June 2014. Under eOne, the band released two studio albums: The Wreckage of Stars on September 30, 2014, and Selves We Cannot Forgive on July 22, 2016. The band later signed with Century Media and released their third studio album, Violent Portraits of Doomed Escape, on August 7, 2020. According to a 2016 Reddit AMA, the band's name derives from a Tibetan spiritual leader who wears a black crown as a symbol of help for humanity, reflecting the group's artistic philosophy.
