The name translates from Old Norse as "home of the Vanir," referring to a group of gods associated with fertility, wisdom, and the ability to see the future. The concept of Vanaheimr is attested in several key medieval texts that preserve Norse mythological knowledge. It appears in the Poetic Edda, which was compiled in the 13th century from earlier traditional sources, as well as in the Prose Edda and Heimskringla, both written in the 13th century by Snorri Sturluson. In these ancient texts, Vanaheimr is described as the location where the god Njörðr was raised, establishing its importance within the broader Norse mythological framework.
