Born Louis Scaglione on April 2, 1917, Victor Lou was an Italian American singer who achieved commercial success with novelty records featuring Italian themes. Recording for multiple labels including RCA Victor, Reprise Records, Roulette Records, Jubilee Records, Regalia Records, Musicor Records, Laurie Records, and AFE Records, Lou released his most popular material during the late 1950s and early 1960s. His best-known recordings include "Lazy Mary" from 1958 and "Pepino the Italian Mouse," released in 1962 and 1963, which became a million-selling single in the United States. He also recorded the seasonal favorite "Dominick the Donkey." Lou passed away on June 12, 1989, leaving behind a catalog of best-selling Italian-themed novelty records that defined much of his musical career.
