Born on July 1, 1944, Wanda Maria Ferreira de Sá is a Brazilian bossa nova singer and guitarist who has been active since 1964. She began her musical training at age 13 under the tutelage of Roberto Menescal. Throughout her career, she has collaborated with notable Brazilian musicians including Sérgio Mendes, with whom she worked in his group Brasil '65', as well as Marcos Valle and Kátya Chamma. Her debut album, Vagamente, was released in 1964 and featured Francisco Tenório Júnior and Ugo Marotta. From 1969 to 1982, she was married to Edu Lobo, a legendary Brazilian singer, songwriter, guitarist, and composer. After nearly a decade away from performing in the United States, she returned in 2011 to play at Birdland in New York City alongside Marcos Valle. The Wall Street Journal has described her as "legendary," while National Public Radio has called her "one of Brazil's best-kept musical secrets."
