Watashi Wa

About

Watashi Wa is a Christian pop rock band from San Luis Obispo, California, signed to Tooth & Nail Records. The name "Watashi wa" derives from Japanese, roughly meaning "I am". The band formed in 1999 when most members were still teenagers. They initially signed with indie label Bettie Rocket and released two albums before joining Tooth & Nail Records in 2002. The original group disbanded in July 2004, but the project was revived when singer and guitarist Seth Roberts' new band Eager Seas was signed to Tooth & Nail, releasing their first album under the Watashi Wa name before leaving the label. The members subsequently changed their name to Eager Seas and were signed with The Militia Group, producing the Photographs EP. Years later, Seth Roberts revived the Watashi Wa moniker with an album titled People Like People, written in 2020 and produced by Roberts in collaboration with Tyler Tedeschi.
