Based in Athens, Georgia, Widespread Panic is an American rock band that formed in 1986. The current lineup features guitarist and singer John Bell, bassist Dave Schools, drummer Duane Trucks, percussionist Domingo "Sunny" Ortiz, keyboardist John "JoJo" Hermann, and guitarist Jimmy Herring. The band's sound draws from southern rock, blues rock, progressive rock, funk, and hard rock influences, and they have been compared to jam bands such as the Grateful Dead and Phish. The band has experienced lineup changes over the years, including the loss of original guitarist Michael Houser, who died of pancreatic cancer in 2002, and original drummer Todd Nance, who departed in 2016 and passed away in 2020. Widespread Panic is widely recognized for their exceptional live performances and holds the record for the most sold-out shows at both Red Rocks Amphitheatre and State Farm Arena in Atlanta.
