Nika Roza Danilova, known professionally as Zola Jesus, is an American singer, songwriter, and record producer born on April 11, 1989. Her music combines elements of electronic, industrial, classical, and goth styles. Originally born in Phoenix, Arizona, she spent her formative years in northern Wisconsin, where she began writing and recording music independently while attending college. During her second year of studies, she released two singles and two EPs through the independent label Sacred Bones. After graduating from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, she released her debut album, The Spoils, in 2009, followed by Stridulum II in 2010 and Conatus in 2011. Her fourth album, Taiga, was released in 2014 by Mute Records and marked a departure from her previous work with a more prominent pop-influenced sound. She released her fifth studio album, Okovi, in 2017.
